Laurie grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. She graduated at Kendall College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration. Laurie has written and illustrated several picture books includingBirdy's Smile Book, The Scrambled States of America Talent Show, andDo Unto Otters, a 2008 Bank Street Best Children's Book of the Year. She lives near Lake Michigan.
