The story of Billy Parker, a guitar player who loves the purity of old-time country and gospel music and who believes the most important a musician can have, apart from raw talent, is taste. But, in order to make his living, Billy must play what bar crowds want to hear: top-40 radio songs. His life is further complicated by the discontent of his wife, Jean, her failure as an actress, her obsession with having a child, and her lovers.
